Joya de Nicaragua
The oldest Nicaraguan brand — once "the cigar of US presidents".Brand story
Joya de Nicaragua is the oldest Nicaraguan cigar brand, founded in 1968. In the 1970s it was so famous it was called the cigar of the White House. It survived civil war and the destruction of its factory, and today it is a proud national symbol.
Origins
The brand was founded in 1968 in Estelí as the first to show the world the potential of Nicaraguan tobacco. It quickly won the US market and became a favourite even at the highest levels of politics.
History
During the Sandinista revolution of the 1970s and 80s the factory was damaged and production nearly ended. But the brand recovered, and today’s Antaño and Cinco Décadas lines are among the strongest and most respected Nicaragua has to offer.
How & where it’s made
Joya is made in Estelí from 100% Nicaraguan tobacco and is seen as a benchmark of the Nicaraguan style. The Antaño line is among the strongest widely available cigars there is.
Style
On the palate Joya ranges from balanced to very full and spicy cigars with notes of pepper, earth, leather and dark chocolate. It is the choice for lovers of real strength and character.
Did you know
In the 1970s Joya de Nicaragua was the official cigar of the White House — given to foreign guests of US presidents. Few brands have a history so dramatically tied to that of their country.
